This Community Believes in Students and Educators - Editorial

June 17, 2026
In the June 2, 2026 edition of the Stanwood-Camano News, Dr. Ryan Ovenell, the superintendent of the Stanwood-Camano School District wrote an editorial about SCAF's recent projects but even more than that, the generosity that sets Stanwood-Camano apart from other communities. Read the article below:
"Grateful for community's investment in students
The past few weeks offered powerful reminders of what makes the Stanwood-Camano community such a special place to live, learn and grow.
Last week, the Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation held its annual Scholarship Awards Night, awarding a record-breaking $352,100 in scholarships to 154 graduating seniors from Stanwood High School and Lincoln Hill High School. While the amazing people at SCAF organized this remarkable effort, the generosity behind these scholarships came from 118 community donors who believe in our students and their futures.
Just one week earlier, SCAF also awarded more than $52,000 in classroom and educational grants to Stanwood-Camano School District staff, helping fund classroom projects, student learning opportunities and resources that directly support students and teachers across our schools.
These investments send a clear message to our students and educators: this community believes in you.
As superintendent, I have the privilege of seeing every day the impact that caring adults, volunteers, organizations and donors have on our students. SCAF continues to demonstrate what is possible when a community rallies together.
Strong schools are built by communities that believe in young people, support educators and create opportunities for the next generation. This community continues to do exactly that.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who continues to invest in the success of our students and schools."
